A while back we completed a project where we had the choice of either a Robot, a Lamp, or a 19th century Gas Lamp. In my choice, I chose a table lamp as its something I am familiar with. I ended up modeling mine after this lamp I found online. After choosing this one, I decided i wanted the inside to be hollow, as the model is to shine out light. Now, this was before we where working with lights and materials, so I didn't quite know how to make it look as realistic as the photo. But with the help of our senior TA, I learned some pretty helpful manipulation tips and ended with this. Now I cant say this is my best work. But it did however get me a solid grade. Afterwards I began looking for tips to help me out in the future.
knowledge.autodesk.com is 3ds max's help files, and it really simplified how i could have made this odd looking creation, somewhat better.

As we are almost through the entire year, we have finally met Animation.
The graphics of animation is a lot simpler than we had expected, and I'm actually proud of myself for catching onto the process. The thing that interests me most about 3D animation is how long the process has been around. Its a common fact that Toy Story was the very first ever computer animated movie. Surprise, that was only about 23 years ago. Since then it is obvious we have gotten farther, especially with Pixar movies. Since the, the most recent Pixar movies are the up coming and awaited, Incredibles 2, and the actually released and highly proclaimed, Coco. There are other 3D animation movie companies, such as Dream Works Productions and Studio Ghibli which are both closely proclaimed, but Disney's Pixar is surely a bit better known than the others. Credits to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pixar_films Let me start off by saying this, I DO NOT LIKE 3D. I have said that same statement about Vector graphing, but I can say I dislike this more. And don't think I'm being whiny, I have valid reasons.
First off the formatting is very complicated. They could have re arranged the program to be a bit more understanding. Secondly every tutorial is mind numbingly boring. I've never watched anything as BORING as 3DS MAX tutorials I swear. Maybe I'll get used to it. Hopefully. It takes a lot of work to prepare for a video project. Experiential with groups.
